Boise Firefighters - The Early Years
Fire has always been the gravest of threats to mankind assembled in communities. The most effective weapon man has to combat the threat has been organization. This collection shows Boise’s “first-responders” from the late 1800’s through the early decades of the 1900’s. It shows the progress from hand-pulled carts to horse drawn steam pumpers to the emergence of specialized firefighting equipment. It witnesses the evolution of our first-responders from volunteers to the early professionals in our Boise Fire Department.
